It is a network of civil society organizations and individual experts that promote legal actions for the protection and defense of human rights. It encourages the improvement of the legal, political, and social environment of individuals with HIV and at risk populations through monitoring and advocacy.
APWLD was launched in 1986 by a group of women lawyers and activists in the region and is composed of over 200 NGO's, civil society organisations, and networks including feminist/women's rights organisations as well as individual members from Asia and the Pacific. APWLD works to promote women's human rights and use the law as an instrument of social transformation for equality, justice, peace, and development.

ACSWAW raises awareness to combat sexual violence and promotes women's rights and gender equality. It provides legal and social support for women who have experienced sexual violence and advocates for anti-sexual violence policies through their Legal Empowerment program and clinic.
