Founded in 1962 by the United Nations and the Government of Japan, it promotes the development of criminal justice systems and initiatives for rehabilitation and reintegration. It encourages cooperation mechanisms for the prevention of crime in Asia and the Pacific Region.
The National Human Rights Commission of India has the mandate to inquire into violations of human rights by public servants, to intervene in court proceedings relating to human rights, make recommendations to remedy factors that inhibit enjoyment of human rights, review safeguards set out in the Constitution and treaties and make recommendations for their effective implementation.
