James, or “Jay,” joined the World Justice Project as a Rule of Law Index Intern in August 2024. Prior to joining WJP, he worked as an immigration paralegal in Boston and interned for an immigrant rights organization in Los Angeles. He was also a research assistant as an undergraduate, assisting in publications relating to authoritarianism, money laundering, and the rule of law, especially in the former USSR.
Jay received his bachelor’s degree in Diplomacy and World Affairs with a minor in Russian from Occidental College in Los Angeles in May 2023. While at Occidental, he spent a semester studying social and political transformation in South Africa, conducting independent research on militarized masculinity in the apartheid-era South African Defense Force. He is passionate about the power of research to facilitate improved human rights outcomes, and is excited to apply this passion to working with WJP.
