Turkish Bar AssociationThe World Justice Project is pleased to announce the Union of Turkish Bar Associations has joined the WJP as a strategic partner.  WJP Strategic Partners are organizations that provide global leadership in a variety of disciplines, expanding awareness and discussion of the rule of law around the world.

The history of the Union finds its rooots in 1934, with the Lawyer's Congress convened in Izmir. At that time, no broad organization was formed, but the groundwork was laid, and out of it came 5 bar associations. Over the next two decades, much work was done to unify and organize the legal profession in Turkey, and in 1958, the Union of Turkish Bar Associations was formed. It's primary goals have always been to strengthen the rule of law and unify the legal profession in Turkey.

As a Strategic Partner of the WJP, the UTBA will formalize the relationship of information sharing that members of the two organizations already enjoy. The WJP plans to seek out the UTBA's guidance  on issues pertaining to the region and other areas where Turkish members might offer expertise and hope that that the UTBA leadership will be able to participate in international events such as the World Justice Forum V, planned for July 2015.

The WJP is pleased to welcome the UTBA to our network, and looks forward to future collaboration with our shared commitment to advancing the rule of law in Turkey.
