For every young person rising to the occasion, there is a supportive hand from those who have blazed the trail and held the door open to progress.  Born and raised in apartheid South Africa, Dr. Mary Shuttleworth saw firsthand the devastating effects of discrimination and lack of basic human rights. Certain that education was the long-term solution to improving conditions, Shuttleworth earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Change from Fielding Graduate University, and in 2001 formed the nonprofit corporation Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI), an initiative to educate youths about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

An expert in building bridges across cultural and geographic divides, Dr. Shuttleworth has circumnavigated the globe, meeting with Kings, Presidents, Prime Ministers, and United Nations officials, to inspire leadership through education.
