On 1 April 2010, Mr. Edric Selous was appointed as Director of the Rule of Law Unit in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General at the United Nations.  As such, he and his staff support the Rule of Law Coordination and Resource Group, Chaired by the Deputy Secretary-General, which was established to act as the focal point for coordination of system-wide activities on the rule of law and to ensure coherence and coordination in the Organization's rule of law activities.  

Mr. Selous’ background is as a practicing attorney in the UK.  He joined the United Nations in 1993 and worked initially for the Department of Peacekeeping Operations both at Headquarters and in the Field, mainly as a legal adviser, but also in policy positions.  Most recently, Mr. Selous was Deputy Chief of Staff in the United Nations Mission in Kosovo.
