MISA works to protect and uphold freedom of the press in Malawi. It has been active in petitioning transparency, and against President Mutharika's media crackdown in 2011.

It carries out research to provide evidence for policy-making. The Institute is supported by the Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the sovereign wealth fund of the government of Malaysia. Some of their research programs include wealth inequality, economic policy, and urban governance.

NVC was established pursuant to Corruption Control Act 2002, and one of the important tasks of NVC is to 'manage income and asset disclosures' of Nepalese "public officials", let alone a general mandate of handling public grievances. NVC does a technical audit of infrastructure development projects carried out by the Government of Nepal (GoN).

Tostan's mission is to empower African communities to bring about sustainable development and positive social transformation based on respect for human rights. It was founded in Senegal in 1991, but their Community Empowerment Program (CEP) operates in 6 African countries, commencing their operations in The Gambia in 2007.
