Karen F. Green is the principal of Green Law LLC. She arbitrates cases as a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Roster of Commercial Arbitrators and National Judicial Panel of Health Care Arbitrators and mediates business disputes at REBA Dispute Resolution. She also serves as a court-appointed neutral.
Green is a member of the Rule of Law Leadership Council of the World Justice Project and serves on the Advisory Board of the American Bar Association’s Center for Human Rights. She is a Fellow of Litigation Counsel of America, of which she was President in 2016, and of the American Bar Foundation. She also is a member of the National Association of Women Judges. An avid rower, she races with Dharma Voyage.
From 2016 to 2022, Green was an Associate Justice of the Massachusetts Superior Court, where she handled criminal and civil cases, including in the Business Litigation Session.
Until her judicial appointment, Green was a partner at WilmerHale and focused her practice on complex business litigation, including government investigations and litigation. She was a member of WilmerHale’s Executive Committee, co-chaired its Litigation and Controversy Department, and chaired Hale and Dorr’s Litigation Department. She also served as a director or trustee of numerous other organizations, including CareGroup, Inc., Mass. Eye & Ear, the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, and Fiduciary Trust Company.
Green earlier worked as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge W. Arthur Garrity, Jr, an Assistant US Attorney, Chief of Staff to Massachusetts Governor William F. Weld, and Deputy US Attorney for the federal District of Massachusetts.
Clients and peers consistently recognized Green as a litigation leader in Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, Boston Magazine, and other publications. New England Super Lawyers listed her in its 2004-2016 editions and featured her in its 2015 edition. Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly twice selected her as a “Top Woman of the Law” and inducted her into its Circle of Excellence in 2015. The Women’s White Collar Defense Association honored her as a “Trailblazer” in 2021.
Green is a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of Harvard/Radcliffe College and a cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School. She was a 2015 Fellow of Harvard University’s Advanced Leadership Initiative.
Green is married and has two sons and four granddaughters.
