Jim Fitzgerald is the Director of the Equal Rights Trust, an international non-governmental organisation, which exists to eliminate all forms of discrimination and ensure that everyone can participate in society on an equal basis. The Trust works in partnership with equality defenders – civil society organisations, lawyers and others using law to create an equal world – providing them with the technical, strategic and practical support they need to work for the adoption and effective implementation of comprehensive equality laws. It also works with international partners to develop understanding of the role of equality laws in the realisation of rights, development and good governance, and to support them to adopt equality-by-design approaches to their programming.
