Gabriel is currently the Human Rights Defenders Program Lead at the Proyecto de derechos económicos, sociales y culturales (Economic, social and cultural rights project) or ProDESC for short (@ProDESC). ProDESC is a feminist Mexican NGO that focuses on economic, social and cultural rights. ProDESC defends and accompanies collective processes in three main areas: the right to land, territory and natural assets; labor rights; and the right to defend human rights. Gabriel has over 10 years of professional experience working with human rights defenders and vulnerable communities in Latin America. Prior to joining PrODESC, Gabriel spent 8 years at the Organization of American States’ Peace Mission in Colombia, where he was responsible for conducting human rights fact-finding and assisting communities implement community-based security measures. Gabriel holds a Master of Arts in Social Sciences from University of Helsinki (Finland), a Master of Arts in Economy, state and society from University College London (United Kingdom), and a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico).
