World Justice Challenge 2021 Live Awards Presentation

In a live presentation on May 26th, 2021, the World Justice Project announced six winners in the World Justice Challenge 2021: Advancing the Rule of Law in a Time of Crisis competition. Selected from a pool of 30 finalists and 425 submissions from 114 countries, each winning project will be awarded $20,000 USD for their work to protect and advance the rule of law in the face of COVID-19 challenges.

The World Justice Challenge 2021 judging committee selected five winning projects, one of which received WJP’s first-ever Ruth Bader Ginsburg Legacy Prize. Others were selected as best-in-class for their theme category: Access to Justice for All, Accountable Governance, Anti-corruption and Open Government, and Fundamental Rights and Non-discrimination. The sixth winning project was chosen by WJP’s network popular vote for its inspiration and impact.

Finalists Regional Showcase Recordings

This year, the World Justice Project received over 425 submissions from 114 countries. From these 425 submissions, 30 finalists were selected to take part in an online regional showcase event. The events featured an assessment by WJP's regional partners of the efforts underway in countries of the region to "build back better" from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in four areas—access to justice for all, accountable governance, fundamental rights and non-discrimination, and anti-corruption and open government.

These events also gave our 30 finalists an opportunity to present their projects and share key insights into their objectives and impact as a basis to select the six winners of the World Justice Challenge 2021. After the presentations, participants were invited to engage in a Q&A session with finalists in different breakout rooms.
