Rea Abada Chiongson is IDLO’s Senior Legal Advisor on Gender, where she spearheads the organization’s work on gender and the rule of law. Rea was the Gender and Justice Advisor for the Justice for the Poor program at the World Bank. She also worked as a gender and law expert at the Asian Development Bank, UN Women, UNDP, and UNFPA. As Deputy Secretary-General of the Working Group for an ASEAN Human Rights Mechanism from 1996-2001, she was instrumental in the creation of the ASEAN Inter-governmental Commission on Human Rights and the ASEAN Commission on Women and Children. Rea began her career as a staff attorney at the Ateneo Human Rights Center in the Philippines, working on legal reform, legal aid, and legal empowerment.
