For the Netherlands, SDG 16 is fundamental to other SDGs and is a key component of our development policy. We have a tradition of focusing on accountability, justice and human rights and we have a strong focus on gender equality.

Within the Dutch development policy, access to justice plays a key role. We have set quantitative targets for our efforts in this field and report annually on progress achieved. For 2018, our target was to provide access to justice to 100.000 people. We commit to double this figure and to provide access to justice for 200.000 people, through programs supported by the Netherlands, in 2020. Half of these will be women. 

By doubling this number we commit ourselves to making equal access to justice for all a reality. Together we can build more peaceful, just and inclusive societies and achieve the 2030 Agenda.
