Ms. Maris has been Public Defender of the Nation (Argentine Republic) since July 2006. Official Defender before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation from 2001 to 2006. She holds a doctorate in Law from the University of Salamanca, Spain. She is a lawyer and has a degree in Criminology from the Law School of the University of Buenos Aires. She was director of the Master's in Criminology at the National University of Lomas de Zamora and undergraduate and graduate professor at the University of Buenos Aires, National University of Lomas de Zamora, University of Belgrano. She is the author of numerous articles on genetic manipulation—the topic of her doctoral dissertation. She is presently the Secretary General of the Inter-American Association of Public Defenders (AIDEF) and Counselor of the Official Public Defenders Block of MERCOSUR (BLODEPM); and National Coordinator for the Argentine Republic of the Specialized Meeting of Official Public Defenders of MERCOSUR (REDPO). . She is a member of the Monitoring Committee of the "Brasilia Rules on Access to Justice for People in Conditions of Vulnerability" of the Ibero-American Judicial Summit.
