Leading Organizations

It is a collective of nine Amharic language bloggers who work together to create an alternative and independent platform of ideas concerning the socio-political situation of Ethiopia.

It is the local chapter of Transparency International and has worked in Ethiopia since 2002. It builds coalitions with the private sector, civil society organizations, and the government to prevent corrupt practices, strengthen public institutions, and foster a deep-rooted anti-corruption culture.

It promotes transparency and accountability in public offices, enterprises, and organizations by offering ethics and anti-corruption education and by mobilizing the public against corruption and impropriety.

EITI is a coalition composed of government agencies, extractive companies, and civil society organizations that promotes transparency and accountability in the extractive sector. It fosters open information and accountable management of oil, gas, and mineral resources.

It is an independent media outlet that promotes freedom of the press, democracy, the respect for human rights, and the rule of law in Ethiopia. It was founded in 2010 by a group of exiled journalists, living in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Established in 2000, it protects the human rights and freedoms enshrined in the constitution through advocacy, counseling, monitoring, and research.

Founded in 1991, EEA specializes in the analysis of the Ethiopian economy, through training, public dialogue, and research. In 2000, the Association established the Ethiopian Economic Policy Research Institute (EEPRI) as a subsidiary, which is organized in four areas: macro economy, trade and industry, poverty, and human resources.

Founded in 1965, it coordinates the social and development ministries of the Universal Church in Ethiopia. It provides humanitarian assistance, social rehabilitation, WASH services, and health and HIV/AIDS education.

It is a Pan-African institute of policy research and dialogue, that works toward governmental accountability concerning the protection of children's rights. It monitors and reports progress, provides a platform for dialogue, and collaborates with inter-governmental organizations and civil society.

It publicizes the situation of political prisoners in the country to solicit support from international public opinion in calling for the respect of human rights and the due process of law in Ethiopia.

Founded in 1991, it advocates for a culture of peace and development through proactive grassroots participation and by fostering customary and modern conflict resolution mechanisms in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.

It works to prevent HIV/AIDS, while also protecting the basic needs and human rights of people living with HIV/AIDS, their families, and dependents. Through its Social Accountability project, the organization works to strengthen citizens’ voices and promotes the accountability of public service providers.

It offers legal services in areas such as commercial law, labor law, and dispute resolution, among others. It is known for its contributions to the free access website Abyssinia Law.

KMG strives to achieve a society free from all forms of discrimination and violence against women, creating an environment that recognizes their talents and wisdom. Its areas of work include infrastructure development, environment and climate change litigation, GBV, human rights, and health and education programs.

Founded in 1992, it seeks the improvement of prisoner's rights, while also promoting human rights, good governance, and the rule of law in Ethiopia. Their initiatives include capacity development of the government, advocacy, policy dialogue, conflict management, and peace building, among others.

Since 2010, it has promoted peaceful coexistence and collaboration between religious institutions and communities in Ethiopia. The Council is recognised for their work in peace building education that incorporates member institutions, regional branch offices, and the public.

It contributes to the eradication of hunger and poverty in Ethiopia through the combination of modern and traditional knowledge, through sharing experiences, open dialogue, research, training, and participation to support and improve the livelihoods of local communities.

It fosters peace and security through research, dialogue, and outreach activities in Ethiopia and throughout Africa by offering quality education and capacity training in the specialized field of peace and security to students and stakeholders.

Founded in 1991, HRCO is an independent organization that works towards building a democratic system though the promotion of the rule of law and due process, and encouraging and conducting human rights monitoring.

It coordinates advocacy efforts for their members for the promotion of peace, justice, and unity in Ethiopia, while also working with similar national and international associations.

Founded in 1996, it promotes and protects the economical, social, and legal rights of women in Ethiopia. They provide free legal aid services, public education, capacity building, research, and law reform advocacy. EWLA runs 60 legal aid centers to assure that the service is accessible to women at the grass root level.

EPHA was founded in 1991 and works to achieve an optimal standard of health for the people of Ethiopia. It promotes better health services for the public and high professional standards through advocacy, relevant policies, and effective networking.

Founded in 1972, it assists disadvantaged communities with emergency relief, rehabilitation, support for refugees/returnees, and HIV/AIDS prevention. It promotes sustainable development, community empowerment, and gender equality.

Since 1992 it has worked to strengthen the practice of midwifery in Ethiopia. It contributes to the expansion of the midwifery profession through the development of evidence based practices and empowering professionals to reduce maternal, newborn and child morbidity and mortality, and to improve sexual and reproductive health.

It promotes the efficient administration of justice, contributing to the development of jurisprudence, the respect for human rights, and the rule of law. It advances legal education and provides free legal aid to those who are economically and socially underprivileged.
