María José Montiel

María José has a B.A. in International Relations from Universidad de las Américas-Puebla (UDLAP) and a master’s degree in Management and Public Policy from CIDE. She has more than 11 years of professional experience in public policy analysis, from both public- and civil society-sectors. Her research focuses on open government, transparency and accountability, governance, and economic competition. She has been consultant for UNDP Office in Mexico and has collaborated with Mexican think tanks such as Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO) and Mexico Evalúa. Prior to her position at WJP, she was Director of Open Government at the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) where she conducted multiple projects, including the Open Government Metrics 2017 and 2019, the accountability and transparency strategy to respond to COVID-19 in Mexico, and representing INAI at the Open Government Partnership, to name a few examples. She is passionate about to inclusion and gender issues.
