Mery graduated from the University of California, San Diego, in 2021 with a B.A. in English Literature/Analysis and a minor in Human Rights. She has done volunteer work by providing help to asylees from the Republic of Turkey with learning English in Orange County, California. While in college, Mery was a member of the Scholars at Risk @ UC San Diego program, working under Dr. Nancy Postero and helped create a campaign for imprisoned scholar and professor Khalil al-Halwachi.
Later that summer, Mery interned full-time with the International NGO Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB), where she continued her work with Bahraini activists and lobbied before Congress to advocate for victims of torture and state-sanctioned violence. In addition, she interned with Project Concern International (PCI), where she analyzed data and cataloged human-trafficking prevention curricula in San Diego County primary schools.
Mery started as an Engagement Intern in February 2022 and is excited to be a working part of the World Justice Project's initiative to make data on the Rule of Law accessible and present to all.
