SASANE Receives UNWTO Global Tourism Award

On January 20, 2015, Samrakshak Samuha Nepal (SASANE) was awarded first place in the non-governmental category at the 12^th annual UNWTO Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Tourism in Madrid, Spain. SASANE was recognized for its Sisterhood of Survivors (SOS) Program designed to provide hospitality training to trafficking survivors in Kathmandu, Nepal. The SOS Program – run in partnership with Planterra and G Adventures – also offers lunches and cooking classes for tourists, which include an educational component on sex trafficking and women’s rights in Nepal. SASANE is the recipient of a 2014 World Justice Challenge award for its SASANE Paralegal Training Program, which provided paralegal certification and a 6-month paid practicum to trafficking survivors.
